Keeping you safe on the road Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
What is ADAS Calibration? Does your car have Lane Keep Assist (LKA)? What about a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)? Maybe Lane Tracking Assist (LTA)?
All of these features are examples of ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) Technology, where the camera is located within your windshield. Currently, over 60 million vehicles in the U.S. today have ADAS (various cameras/LIDAR/radar) systems.
ADAS calibration is the process of adjusting the camera lens to capture a complete image of the vehicle and road, guaranteeing that in-car ADAS systems receive accurate and reliable information. ADAS systems work through a camera that is fitted to the center of the windshield. The camera then relays important information about the conditions of the road ahead to the ADAS system so that the vehicle knows when to activate automated safety measures. This includes monitoring blind spots, pedestrians and proximity to other objects, so it is important that the camera is calibrated to offer the best possible surveillance of the vehicle and road.
After repairing or replacing windshields, these systems can be impaired and require adjustments from us to meet your Manufacturer’s standards for safety. After a windshield install your vehicle's ADAS will need to be recalibrated
Is ADAS calibration necessary?
A misaligned camera could jeopardize the functionality of the system and lead to dangerous accidents, so it is crucial that the cameras are aligned perfectly, which is what we at Platinum Auto Glass ensure.
How do I get my car calibrated?
When customers are talking to a Platinum Auto Glass Customer Service Representative (CSR) to schedule their windshield replacement, the CSR may ask you a few simple questions about the vehicle regarding the ADAS system. If it is determined that you have an ADAS feature that needs to be calibrated, they will notify the team at Platinum Auto Glass. The Platinum Auto Glass team will contact the customer to then schedule the calibration.
Within the Calibration team, we try to schedule the calibration appointment within a day of their windshield replacement (if not sooner or the same day).
There are two types of calibration that we schedule:
Static (car is parked) and;
Dynamic (performed while driving the car).
In some cases, certain brands of cars require both types of calibration to meet the automaker’s specifications. We will advise you which calibration will work best for your vehicle. We do take time to drive all vehicles after their calibration to make sure all ADAS functions are working according to OEM specs.
